ABOUT MIDDLE GROUNDS
BRIDGING IDEOLOGICAL GAPS
Middle Grounds is a chapter of the national program Bridge USA. We are a club dedicated to fostering non-partisan political unity through open and respectful conversations. We provide a platform for students to engage in meaningful discussions about various political and social issues, aiming to promote understanding and empathy.
Our Executive Board
PRESIDENT
Augustus Bryan is a third-year at the University of Virginia. He is the president of Middle Grounds and also studies Foreign Affairs, as well as research into political redistricting. On the side, he also loves cycling, studying Russian, and satirical newspapers.
VICE PRESIDENT
Lucy Robb is a second year from Portland, Oregon majoring in politics and global sustainability with a minor in religious studies. At UVA, she serves as secretary of the International Relations Organization and is also a member of the Model United Nations team. She chairs the PR committee of first year council as well. Outside of school, Lucy loves hiking, music, and side quests!
TREASURER
George Barkley is a third-year at the University of Virginia, where he studies Economics and History. He is a member of Cav Angels and is the Treasurer at Middle Grounds. Outside of academics and clubs, he’s an avid golfer who spends much of his free time on the course.
LOGISTICS CHAIR
William Green is a third-year History and Economics student at the University of Virginia. He is the Logistics Chair of Middle Grounds, as well as a humor columnist for The Cavalier Daily. In his free time he enjoys hunting and reading.
SOCIAL CHAIR
Lily Brame is a third-year at UVA where she is studies Foreign Affairs and Public Policy. She is Middle Grounds’ Social Chair, as well as Vice President of NextGen at UVA. Beyond politics, Lily enjoys art and music. Whether the topic is elections or bands, Lily is always down for some civil discourse.
COMMUNICATIONS
CHAIR
Nick Felsman is a third-year, double majoring in political and social thought and math. While Nick is a part of creating productive conversations with Middle Grounds, he is also an active member of UVA’s Polymorphic Media Collective, which focuses on publicizing healthy discourse. Nick’s excited for the year to start and to see all the new faces at Middle Grounds.
OUTREACH CHAIR
Billy Katchmark is a second year at UVA and plans on studying Public Policy. He is the Outreach Chair for UVA Middle Grounds where works to bring in new perspectives and create connections across campus. Outside of political discourse, Billy likes to play sports being an active member of the UVA Club Dodgeball and Racquetball teams.
